week 2
Outline
After reading over the assessment I now have an understanding of what is expected from this blog. With my weekly posts I aim to:
- Discuss each challenge and obstacle encountered
- Discuss what I could do to overcome or how I overcame each challenge
- Talk about my thought process and approaches both technical and design elements
- Reflect on my personal learning and progress
- Keep track of resources and inspiration
Since last week, I have had a thought about what design challenges to complete and at the moment I am thinking of creating a small domestic room in which some of the furniture can be re-textured in game and combining the interactive door system, making it lead into the room.
Having selecting 2 of the design challenges, I still need to decide on 3 more with the options being:
- An interactive and animated button and lever interaction system
- An in-game painting tool where the player can pick up a brush and paint onto a canvas
- An interactive radial menu as an in-game smartwatch, attached to the player’s wrist
- A remote-control/drone mechanic
- A main menu system using only 3D, diegetic/in-world components
- A ladder mechanic where the player can use their hands to physically climb
I am aiming to incorporate all the design challenges chosen into one project, so this meant that I had to think of ways to link any of the remaining options with the ones I currently had as well as what interested me the most. Since I had some difficulty deciding, I chose to focus on the options I already had and to develop the ideas further. I began to brainstorm themes for the room and ways to include re-texturing:
- A bedroom
- Interior design - design your own bedroom
- A café
- Interior design - customise your own café
- Making drinks - empty glass changes texture to a full glass
- Setting tables
- Aesthetic environment / experience
- seasons can be changed which changes the appearance / texture of plants and the surrounding environment
For next week
I need to continue focusing on the room as to not spend too much time choosing options. Next week I aim to make a start on designing the room, finding reference photos for inspiration to help me do so.
