week 4
Outline
I began to focus on the door. To start with I had a look at previous projects I have done in which I had a door mechanic. I did this to refresh my memory and to help me think about ways I could change it.
At first I kept it simple and created the same sort of door which opens on a hinge as the player enters the box collision . After I began, I knew I had to try to challenge myself so I thought about different ways a door could open:
- Sliding double door
- Opens by lever
- Opens by button
- Could require players to apply a force
With the second and third option I realised this meets one of the design challenges and had an idea to use this within the actual café itself for example as cupboards or freezer.
Research
I researched ways I could make a sliding door and found it was similar to what I had done already. The main differences were that I had to set the door's relative location rather than rotation and do a slightly different timeline that was a vector track rather than float.
Progress
For the appearance of the door, I want it to be quite modern so most likely a glass door, but for the mean time I will just use a simple box as a placeholder to get the main part out of the way first.

For next week
Next week I need to work on re-texturing furniture in game. I aim to make the player able to change the furniture and decorations in order to design their own cosy café.
